Bromsgrove Standard column
Following the recent news that NHS Worcestershire has delayed its review of acute services so that there is more time to draw up the short-list of options, I thought that this would be an important time to showcase how important the Alex is to Bromsgrove residents.
I therefore invited the Health Services Minister, Dr Dan Poulter MP, to visit the Alexandra Hospital, after holding a meeting with him in Westminster to explain the significance of the Alex to people throughout Bromsgrove.
He agreed with me about how vital community hospitals and their services are to local residents and noted that this is why this Government has guaranteed health spending increases in real terms for each year of this Parliament. The Government is increasing the NHS budget by an extra £12.5 billion by 2015 and, although demand for health care continues to grow, this will lead to better care for patients.
I’m delighted that the Health Services Minister has accepted my invitation to visit the Alex and see for himself the valuable services it provides to the local community, and I look forward to the visit taking place soon. Karen Lumley, MP for Redditch, will also attend the visit as we make the best case in support of the Alex.
It is very clear that my constituents want to maintain all the services currently provided by the Alex, and I hope that this will help us to achieve that goal.
