Bromsgrove MP vows to do more to combat homelessness at Centrepoint event

A SPECIAL event on housing and homelessness was held in Bromsgrove last Friday (December 2).

The meeting at Artrix, held in conjunction with Centrepoint, saw town MP Sajid Javid – in his role as Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities – discuss the plans to address the issue in Bromsgrove and Redditch, followed by a question and answer session.

Guests heard about Centrepoint, which gives homeless young people a future, and the launch of a new national helpline to help homeless young people.

Mr Javid affirmed his commitments to tackling homelessness and his support for the Homelessness Reduction Bill to tackle the causes of the problem.

“One person without a home is one too many and I’m determined to fight this issue.

“Since 2010, we’ve already invested £500million to help a million households from being homeless.

“There’s still more to be done – that’s why we’re investing £500million over the next four years to tackle homelessness, and an extra £149million to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness.

“Centrepoint’s project is a great example of how to help transform lives by helping young people access the help they need.

“As we approach Christmas, it’s important for us to do all we can to help those who most need it.”
