HAPPY New Year to the readers of the Bromsgrove Standard!
I hope you all had a restful and joyous break with loved ones and that you are ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that 2023 may present.
2022 was – understandably – a difficult year for many, however I am confident that 2023 will present brighter days.
The Prime Minister has already outlined five promises which will help to ease the pressure on the economy and the NHS with investment into science and technology, embracing our Brexit freedoms, reforming the NHS, and combating the difficulties with small boats.
This month, we marked the 75th anniversary of the Windrush generation. My parents – like thousands of others – came to the UK from Commonwealth countries in hope of a better life for their children and grandchildren.
On January 26, we will mark Holocaust Memorial Day in Parliament – a day where we will remember the abhorrent and brutal persecution of millions of innocent Jewish people in Nazi occupied territories.
I would encourage people reading this to reflect on the horrors that occurred and ensure they do not forget the atrocities that were carried out.
Locally, I was fortunate enough to visit St John’s Middle last month for a Q&A session. I always enjoy visiting the fantastic schools that we have in Bromsgrove!
I was sorry to read that Alvechurch FC had been knocked out of the FA Cup, congratulations to all involved on a fantastic cup run this season.
