BROMSGROVE Sporting has received praise from the town’s MP for the work the club does in the community and the main stand roof refurbishment in tribute to much-loved teenager Thomas Jones.
Sajid Javid said: “It’s a fantastic tribute and a real touch of class from the club.
“I could not praise them highly enough for the work they continue to do for our community.”
Sporting’s season was interrupted in March, with the club playing what would be their last game of the season on March 7.
Since then, it has remained active through the collection and distribution of food for vulnerable residents across the district.
In May, Sporting received a £10,000 grant from Sport England and also used the lockdown to seize the opportunity to make improvements to the pitch and the main stand roof.
However, the return of the league remains unknown, with Sporting making a series of recent signings in anticipation of a restart in the near future.
Bromsgrove Sporting Chairman, Mike Burke said: “It was great to have Sajid down at the ground to discuss the main stand and the club’s tribute to Thomas
“We’ve worked hard throughout this period on different projects and the discussion with Sajid provided a good opportunity to highlight these and areas where there are challenges.”
Mr Javid added: “It has been great to see recent announcements that some sport is returning – including Champions League football, Formula One and cricket.
“It is right we are taking a cautious approach and considering everything that comes with the return of sport, including the necessary ‘off the pitch’ activity on match days.
“Like so many local residents I’m looking forward to football returning to the Victoria Ground and I hope to be there in future to cheer on the team.”
